Description
Gary Peacock, one of the great jazz bassists of our time shares some of the technical and improvisational ideas he has gleaned during the course of his brilliant 40-year career.

For Gary Peacock, three essential elements--the Physical, the Mental, and the Intuitive--combine to form a complete process for creating music on the bass. Concentrating first on the physical aspects of bass playing, he discusses relaxation, posture, proper alignment, and how observation and awareness allow you to disperse tension and play freely. The exercises in this section will benefit musicians at any level and in any style.

Gary's formula for improvisational success is: "Play the interval; intuit its tonal relationship to the chord or key; melodically confirm it." You'll learn how to recognize the shifting function of an interval within any given chord, how to understand a piece by making a "mental map" of its harmonic construction, how to hear the movement of the root notes against the melody, and much more. Gary's analyses of "All the Things You Are," "Stella by Starlight," and "Rhythm Changes" pulls together the ideas he has examined during the course of this lesson, adding powerful insights to your musical development on the bass.

This 75-minute class will provide an enlightening and challenging journey into the world of jazz bass.

This video is in NTSC format, and will work only in U.S. and Canadian VCR's. "Gary Peacock - The Acoustic Bass - Musicianship And Improvisational Techniques - VHS Video" weighs 10.24 oz.
